If you are curious about the Arts and want to know more,
you are not alone.
The Arts Society Exeter is affiliated to the Arts Society London (66,000 members worldwide) and managed by a group of volunteers who are all passionate about the arts. We enjoy learning about all the arts in the broadest sense - from dance to sculpture, paintings to opera, poetry to glassware. We also support arts education in our local community, especially for young people and those with complex needs. We also paid for a defibrilator for the community of Exeter - positioned just outside the Phoenix. We are looking to sponsor youngsters singing at EXeter Cathedral and extra fun art classes taught in local schools.
Our programme from September to June consists of nine talks usually but ten this year as we have an extra Christmas talk by our new Chairman, called Every Object Tells a Story.
Currently WE ARE FULL and have a short waiting list to join us as full members BUT you can join each talk on ZOOM live if you wish to take out ZOOM membership whilst waiting.
To become a ZOOM member and/or go on the waiting list please email : membership.clareexeterarts@gmail.com
We no longer have seats enough for visitors to try us out. ( so sorry!)
Our outstanding talks are given by experts from museums and galleries who have to pass a rigorous selection process so they are lively, interesting and inspirational. The talks happen on the second Wednesday of each month at 2 pm at the Exeter Phoenix in the theatre room where tiered seating and a large screen mean that the images are clear and visible to all. The talk lasts about one hour with time afterwards for questions, then we have tea and biscuits in the Café. Doors open from 1.35pm and notices are given at 1.55pm, so please be seated by then.
The society also has two study days and two visits every year.
The Study Days, involve a more in-depth look into a particular artistic topic and start about 10am include 2 or 3 lectures, with a break for coffee and lunch and are held in Exeter Central Library or the Phoenix.
The 2 annual visits/days out, involve travel, normally by coach, to places of interest such as galleries, museums, stately homes and other places of architectural or historic significance within 2 hours of Exeter. All these etxras are run at cost and prices vary per event.
Each September/October we offer an Arts tour, visiting museums, galleries and other interesting places - Dublin was September 2023, Italy in 2024 and Vienna 2025. Amsterdam and Norway 2026. Bologna 2027. Yorkshire September 2027.
We all receive three magazines from The Arts Society Head Office in London (posted direct to your door). As a member you have access to all their information and ZOOM talks and special interest days too. Take a look at their website: https://theartssociety.org/
A monthly newsletter tells members all about all the arty things happening locally (and in Cornwall) as well as London, Bristol and Bath. Sign up for free info@theartssocietyexeter.org.uk
