We are the oldest Arts Society, formerly NADFAS, in Devon and in 2015 we celebrated our 40th Anniversary. Since moving our meeting venue to The Phoenix in 2012 we have been able to increase our membership which has grown until it is now approaching 230. We are also able to accommodate guests at our lectures.

Our core programme is a series of nine monthly lectures running from October until June. This is supplemented by Study Days, involving a more in-depth exposure to a particular artistic topic, and a Visits programme involving travel, normally by coach, to places of interest such as galleries, museums, stately homes and other buildings of architectural or historic significance. Recently society members travelled for extended visits to The West Midlands and West Kent.

The lectures are held on Wednesday afternoons and last for an hour. The Study Days involve 2 or 3 lectures, with breaks for coffee and lunch. The lectures are all illustrated and are given by experts in their field who are excellent and entertaining speakers.

Members may also participate in courses, study days and holidays organised by the The Arts Society South West.

A number of our members participate individually in other Arts Society activities such as Heritage Volunteers, Church Recorders, Church Trails for young people and Young Arts programmes. Unfortunately we do not currently have groups of our own undertaking these important activities but for the last two years we have sponsored a two-day Workshop for students at Exeter's RAMM.

We invite anyone who is interested to come along to one of our lectures, introduce themselves and, for a small entrance fee, see for themselves how enjoyable and informative our lectures really are! Please email, in advance, to let us know which meeting you will attend.
